Physics Equation Selector
Levels & boards: IGCSE to A Level / IB Diploma Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, OxfordAQA and IB Physics skills. Review the conditions and official syllabus before using an equation.
Identify candidate Physics equations from a target quantity and the values you know. The selector shows missing information, units, numerical results and the physical assumptions needed for each relationship.
Made for independent learners in Hong Kong and across the GCC: the UAE (including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah), Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. Choose your exam board and syllabus, wherever you study.

Known values – leave unknowns blank
How to use the Physics Equation Selector
- Choose a topic and the quantity you want to find.
- Enter only values you actually know, in the listed units. Leave other fields blank.
- Compare the candidates and use the equation whose assumptions fit your question.
A worked example
If mass is 2 kg and acceleration is 3 m/s squared, F=ma gives a resultant force of 6 N. Pressure multiplied by area can also produce a force, but it answers a different physical situation. Matching symbols alone is not enough to choose a model.
What to check before using your result
- A blank input is unknown, not zero.
- A finite calculation may still be inappropriate if the stated physical assumptions do not hold.
- The displayed library has 16 selected relationships, not every equation in every syllabus.
Make your next practice session count
Use this result as a starting point, not a label for your ability. Record one error, explain its cause and complete a similar question without the worked answer. Then try a different example to check that you understood the method rather than remembered a number.
For exam-style application, choose the correct board and component in the MYT past-paper directory. For guided explanations, explore subject-specific online tutoring or request a free 30-minute demo.
Questions about this tool
Why does more than one equation appear?
The same quantity can occur in different relationships. The tool narrows options using inputs; you must still judge the physical model.
Will it solve arbitrary homework text?
No. It is a guided equation-selection aid with a defined library, not a general question-answering engine.
Do I need an account or need to send my results?
No account is required by this tool. Its calculations run in your browser. Tools with a Save on this device option store data locally only when you choose it; your browser, device policy and storage settings can affect persistence. Export important records before clearing browser data. This describes the tool, not any separate site analytics or contact-form processing.
