MBZUAI Undergraduate Admissions 2027: Requirements, Maths Screening and Scholarships

MBZUAI undergraduate admissions 2027 mathematics screening and scholarship checklist

MBZUAI undergraduate admissions 2027 include an Early Action deadline of 1 November 2026 at 5 p.m. Gulf Standard Time and a Regular Decision deadline of 1 February 2027 at 5 p.m. GST. The university evaluates high-school records, mathematical fluency, a screening examination and other evidence of readiness. Its current undergraduate guidance is much more specific than a generic “AI degree” description: applicants should prepare across algebra, functions, probability, statistics, logic and programming fundamentals. This guide explains what is required and how to prepare responsibly.

MBZUAI undergraduate admissions 2027: application timeline

According to the MBZUAI undergraduate admissions page, the Fall 2027 portal opened on 7 September 2026. Early Action closes 1 November 2026, with expected decisions 15 January 2027. Regular Decision closes 1 February 2027, with decisions expected 1 April 2027. These deadlines use Gulf Standard Time and can change; follow the live university page.

MBZUAI says applicants should submit one application per admissions cycle. Applying again under a different email is not a sensible solution to a weak first submission. Prepare a coherent application before the chosen round.

What academic results does MBZUAI expect?

The undergraduate page gives a minimum overall average around 90% or equivalent, with contextual evaluation by curriculum and the competitive nature of the cycle. It values strong Mathematics and STEM performance, preferably in advanced school Maths during the final two years. Meeting a guideline does not guarantee admission.

Students should not convert their grades into a homemade 4.0 GPA unless the institution asks them to do so. Submit records as issued by the school, including official predicted or interim results if you are still completing the final year.

Screening exam: the maths and logic topics to prepare

The official screening topics include algebra, functions, probability, statistics, matrices and vectors, calculus, discrete mathematics, computational thinking, programming fundamentals, and data/AI reasoning. The selection process also uses an online screening examination and may include faculty interviews. Previous coding experience is not mandatory, although genuine project work may strengthen an application.

Build a test-preparation topic map

Skill Your self-check question Practice task
Algebra Can I rearrange equations with fractions? Solve 8 mixed equations and verify
Functions Can I interpret domain, inputs and outputs? Sketch and explain 3 function graphs
Probability Can I distinguish independent and conditional events? Explain two dice or card examples
Statistics Can I interpret mean, spread and a misleading chart? Analyse a tiny real dataset
Matrices and vectors Can I represent and combine 2D quantities? Work simple matrix products and vector sums
Calculus Can I connect gradient with rate of change? Differentiate a polynomial, explain meaning
Programming logic Can I outline an algorithm in plain language? Write pseudocode for sorting or counting

Two original practice examples (not official test questions)

Probability example: A bag has three red and two blue cards. Two are drawn without replacement. The probability both are red is 3/5 × 2/4 = 3/10. A frequent error is to multiply 3/5 by 3/5, forgetting that the bag has changed after the first draw.

Functions example: Let f(x)=2x^2-3. Then f(-2)=2(4)-3=5. The common mistake is to calculate -2^2=-4 without brackets when evaluating an input. The test of understanding is being able to describe why (-2)^2 is positive.

What is the application process?

MBZUAI lists academic records, a personal statement, CV and selected identity documents depending on residency status. Recommendations and a technical portfolio can be helpful but are described as recommended rather than universally mandatory. Applicants may be invited to complete a screening exam shortly after submission. The university describes a AED 200 fee after the screening exam, with specified waiver or reimbursement conditions; check the current details rather than assuming every applicant pays or is exempt.

A sensible personal statement connects one or two real problems you have explored to the course. “AI is the future” says little. “I used a spreadsheet to compare two forecasting methods, discovered one failed when the data contained outliers, and revised it” provides evidence of learning. Do not pretend a tutorial project is original research.

English-language requirements: do not assume an exemption

For applicants whose first language is not English, the admissions guidance lists accepted scores including IELTS Academic 6.5, PTE Academic 60, and other specified tests, with detailed conditions on where tests may be taken. Exemptions are narrowly defined and depend on schooling context. Students should read the university’s current requirement page themselves, because this is more precise than “my school teaches in English.”

Screening exam waiver: a high score is not an admission guarantee

MBZUAI describes specific ways an applicant may receive a screening exam waiver, including a combined SAT total score of at least 1400 and SAT Math of at least 760, or a specified ACT combination, or qualifying international Olympiad medals. Both requirements in a combined score route must be satisfied. A waiver from one screening step is not a waiver from academic and application requirements.

Students can develop quantitative foundations through A Level Maths support or Further Maths tutoring in Abu Dhabi. For those still building school-level foundations, targeted worked examples are usually more valuable than watching advanced AI videos without understanding the Maths.

What about MBZUAI scholarships?

The university states that merit-based and needs-based undergraduate packages are available and may cover up to 100% of tuition and cost of attendance. “Up to” matters. This does not mean every admitted student automatically receives a full award. The page also gives annual tuition as USD 45,000, before considering individual scholarship outcomes and other costs. Families should ask for a written award breakdown and conditions before committing.

A realistic 30-day preparation routine

Spend four days diagnosing algebra and functions, then eight days on probability, data interpretation and vectors. Use six days for introductory calculus and logic, and five for short programming/pseudocode problems. Reserve the rest for mixed timed tasks, explaining reasoning aloud and reviewing errors. Adapt this plan to your baseline; it is not an official university timetable.

A school student considering MBZUAI should develop curiosity and problem-solving habits, not chase an unofficial “guaranteed admission” bootcamp. MYT can support relevant IB Maths learning or provide a free 30-minute maths demo. Admissions decisions and scholarship awards remain entirely with the university.

Common misunderstandings

MBZUAI now has an undergraduate route, so old guides calling it “graduate-only” are outdated. Coding is useful but not an absolute prerequisite. Scholarships are conditional. Standardised tests may add evidence but do not automatically replace school Maths or guarantee admission. Most importantly, follow the programme’s current admissions page, not a marketing headline or last year’s checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Does MBZUAI have an undergraduate programme for 2027?

Yes. MBZUAI has a published undergraduate admissions route with Early Action and Regular Decision deadlines for Fall 2027.

Is coding experience compulsory?

The university says prior coding experience is not required, though demonstrating meaningful technical work may help.

Is SAT required for MBZUAI undergraduate admission?

No. The university says SAT/ACT are not required, but strong scores may provide evidence of readiness or meet specified screening-waiver criteria.

Are undergraduate scholarships guaranteed?

No. The university describes merit- and need-based packages that can cover up to 100%; each applicant must confirm award eligibility and terms.

Can a Maths tutor guarantee my MBZUAI offer?

No. A tutor can support academic preparation and problem solving, not admission or scholarship outcomes.

Want help with the academic side?

MYT offers 1-to-1 online tutoring for Abu Dhabi students. A free 30-minute demo can help identify a practical starting point; admission and exam registrations remain with the relevant institutions.
