UCAS 2027 for UAE Students: Deadlines, Predicted Grades and Personal Statement

For UCAS 2027 UAE students planning to enter university in the UK, the critical dates are 15 October 2026 for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses, and 13 January 2027 for most other undergraduate applications. Those are 18:00 UK-time deadlines, not the same as 6 p.m. Abu Dhabi time. The current UCAS personal statement uses three questions, so applicants should organise actual learning experiences and evidence rather than copy a generic essay.

UCAS 2027 UAE students: which deadline applies to you?
The UCAS dates and deadlines calendar distinguishes early-deadline courses from most undergraduate choices. The early 15 October 2026 deadline applies to Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine/science programmes. For most other 2027-entry undergraduate courses, the equal-consideration date is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time. Check the actual course listing before relying on a summary.
| Application type | Published equal-consideration date | Check carefully |
|---|---|---|
| Oxford, Cambridge, most medicine/dentistry/vet routes | 15 October 2026 | Specific course and admissions test deadlines |
| Most other UK undergraduate courses | 13 January 2027 | Course-specific requirements and school deadlines |
| Applications after equal consideration | Varies | Whether a course remains open and places are available |
If your Abu Dhabi school submits applications centrally, it may set a much earlier internal deadline for statements, recommendations and predicted grades. Missing the school’s deadline can jeopardise a formally earlier submission plan even when the public UCAS date has not passed.
How does the new three-question personal statement work?
UCAS has replaced the old single-essay format with three structured prompts. The UCAS personal statement builder lists them as:
- Why do you want to study this course or subject? Explain real academic curiosity and a specific aspect of the subject.
- How have your qualifications and studies helped you prepare? Use classroom projects, extended problem solving, reading or coursework evidence.
- What else have you done to prepare outside education, and why is it useful? Explain genuine activities and what you learned from them.
The full statement is still subject to UCAS character and section limits; use the current portal to check live constraints. A strong statement reads as one consistent applicant across three questions, not three unrelated advertisements.
A worked example for a Maths-focused applicant
Weak approach: “I have always loved Mathematics and am very passionate about problem-solving.”
Stronger evidence-based approach (illustrative): “While modelling the spread of a school fundraising budget in a spreadsheet, I realised the average donation concealed large differences between groups. I compared the median with the mean and explained why the two led to different forecasts.”
The second version tells the reader what the student did and learned. Applicants should only describe activities they actually performed. MYT does not write personal statements for students to submit as their own work.
Choosing courses: check subject prerequisites first
Build a shortlist by working backwards from individual degree pages, not generic prestige rankings. Some engineering programmes strongly prefer or require advanced Maths and Physics; economics, computer science, architecture and psychology can have different specific requirements depending on the institution. “I have three A Levels” is not sufficient evidence for every course.
| Candidate’s interest | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Engineering | Maths/Physics subjects and grades; possible admissions tests |
| Economics | Required or preferred A Level Maths; quantitative first-year content |
| Computer science | Mathematics requirements and programming assumptions |
| Psychology | Subject prerequisites, statistics content and course accreditation |
| Design / architecture | Portfolio, interview and academic qualification criteria |
Students in the IB should check HL versus SL, rather than write simply “IB Maths”. British-curriculum applicants should clearly state the exam board and whether their qualifications are predicted or already achieved.
Predicted grades and references: whose job is what?
The student manages their application details, choices and authentic responses. The school/counsellor manages official references and predicted grade evidence where applicable. Universities decide what subject combinations, supporting work, tests or interviews are required.
Ask your school three questions: Who will submit my reference? When will predicted grades be finalised? What date must my completed application reach the school for review? Record the answers in writing.
If your school does not use the usual linked-school submission process, UCAS explains how independent applicants arrange their reference. Do not wait until the public deadline to discover that a referee has not accepted the request.
A realistic application calendar for UAE families
October: Check deadlines, shortlist programmes and build an evidence bank for each personal-statement question. November: Finalise likely choices; request or confirm school references and predicted results. December: Proofread all details against official records, finalise course-specific documents and get a school review. Early January: Submit well before the deadline rather than waiting until late afternoon UAE time on 13 January.
For October early-deadline candidates, the timetable must be accelerated and coordinated immediately with school staff. The calendar is a planning framework, not a replacement for UCAS reminders.
Avoid five common mistakes
Mistake 1: Confusing 18:00 UK time with 18:00 UAE time. Mistake 2: Using one impressive-sounding statement with no evidence of subject interest. Mistake 3: Applying to a course without checking compulsory Maths or science qualifications. Mistake 4: Assuming predicted grades are automatically submitted without the school. Mistake 5: Copying a personal statement generated online rather than providing truthful, personal evidence.

Final submission checklist
Can you state the exact degree titles, required subjects and deadlines? Do you have accurate identity and academic records? Are the personal-statement answers in your own voice? Has the school confirmed the reference? Have you checked the UCAS portal for submission status? A green tick in a checklist is useful only when the underlying task is actually complete.
Frequently asked questions
When is the main UCAS 2027 deadline?
For most undergraduate courses, UCAS gives 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time as the equal-consideration deadline. Some courses have a 15 October 2026 deadline.
Do UCAS applicants from Abu Dhabi follow the same public deadlines?
The published UCAS dates apply, but a UAE school may set earlier internal deadlines for references and review. Convert UK times carefully.
How many questions are in the UCAS personal statement?
The current format uses three prompts about subject motivation, preparation through studies, and preparation beyond formal education.
Can I use a tutor to write my UCAS statement?
Academic support can help you reflect on your genuine learning, but the submission should be your own truthful work. Follow UCAS rules and your school’s integrity policy.
